ATS Equipment- Phase 5

Equipment Selection and Preparation: Adhere to USSA rules for all equipment selection.

Skis: Skier should have separate pairs of skis for slalom, GS and super G and training skis.

Boots: Proper boot fit and flex are critical for performance. Boot flexes and responds as it interacts with the ski and plate. Performance considerations may include flex, cant forward lean, ramp angle and foot beds.

Protection: Head, arm, hand, shoulder, back teeth and shin protection recommended based on event.

Poles: GS-standard length. SL- pole guard for blocking and protection, pole may be slightly shorter. Should have separate poles for SL and GS/SG at this phase.

Ski preparation recommendations:

Base bevel: 1/2 degree SL, .7 degree GS
Side bevel: 3 degrees all disciplines

Waxing: May use of flourinated waxes as conditions warrant. Never use high-flouro waxes for general base prep, training wax should be low-flouro or basic wax. Skis should be waxed and scraped daily for training. Take proper safety precautions when using flourinated waxes (read more here).

The athlete should be responsible for equipment preparation and maintenance at this phase. Being able to relate how their equipment prep translates to their ski performance becomes an important skill.
