Alpine Club of the Year

2014 Alpine Club of the Year - Ski and Snowboard Club Vail

Ski and Snowboard club Vail is coming off another year of tremendous athletic success at all levels of the program. It placed two skiers on the Junior World Championships team, had nine top ten finishers at the U18 National Championships, and had the largest team (13 skiers) at the U16 National Championships. At the U14 level, it won 69% of the total medals. This athletic performance was supported by a pre-season two-week long professional development session attended by the coaching staff. There is intensive planning based around long-term athlete development principles. For example, the U14 team was heavily focused on fundamental skills with lots of work on the SkillsQuest program, but saw the benefits carry over into the racing. With world-class training on its Gold Peak race arena from the beginning of November and on the Birds of Prey venue after the World Cups, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s alpine athletes had every opportunity to succeed, and many did.
