A key factor in the success of an athletic program is effective management. For USSA, and its clubs, sports management includes management of relationships with athletes and parents, communication, risk management, leadership, fundraising and sponsorship, and event management. As part of the USSA’s coaches certification program, coaches are required to obtain 2 course credits in the sports management domain. USSA is working with universities and colleges to develop on-line sports management courses for coaches to take.

The initial courses for USSA coaches have been developed in collaboration with the International Institute of Tourism Studies at The George Washington University. They cover the following subjects:

• Management and Leadership of Sports Organization
• Funding Sports Organizations
• Sports Event Management
