USA Sixth in Mixed Gender Team Event

VAL DI FIEMME, Italy (Feb. 24) - Team USA placed sixth in the first ever mixed gender team ski jumping event at the FIS World Nordic Ski Championships. Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) and Jessica Jerome (Park City, UT) jumped for the ladies and Anders Johnson (Park City, UT) and Peter Frenette (Saranac Lake, NY) for the men. This was the mixed gender team event's debut and the Japanese team took the gold with a commanding lead. 

HIGHLIGHTS

 

  • The USA jumped to sixth in the debut of a mixed gender ski jumping team event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme.
  • The first time competition featured two men and two women, each gender starting from a different starting bar.
  • Jessica Jerome (Park City, UT) opened with a first-round leading jump of 98.0 meters to put the USA into the lead. Jerome came back with a strong 98.5 on her second jump.
  • Peter Frenette (Saranac Lake, NY) put together jumps of 89.5 and 86.5 meters.
  • World Champion Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) soared 99.0 on her first but finished second to Sara Takanashi's 101.5. Hendrickson went out to 104.5 on her second jump and actually outscored Takanashi's massive 106.5 meter jump.
  • Anders Johnson (Park City, UT), who qualified for Friday's normal hill final, went 90.0 and 91.5.
