SNOWBASIN, UT (Feb 11) - Louie Vito (Sandy, UT) won the Dew Tour with its highest-ever score of 98.0 and in the process became the first superpipe athlete to win consecutive Dew Cups. Vito has been consistent on the tour finishing second in two previous stops but landed on the top of the podium for the first time in his home state. Vito trailed Iouri Podladtchikov (Switzerland) heading into the final run. U.S. Snowboarding Rookie Spencer Shaw (Stratton Mountain, VT) finished third.
It was a personal best finish for U.S. Snowboarding Rookie Spencer Shaw (Stratton Mountain, VT) and he was all smiles. He did a huge frontside 1440 tailgrab, the first time he had the done the trick and he nailed it.
Louie Vito's (Sandy, UT) score of 98 was the highest ever score for snowboarding halfpipe at the Dew Tour.
Next up for the team: they head to the TTR 6Star World Snowboarding Championships next week in Oslo, Norway
The halfpipe team heads to the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain, CA February 29 - March 3.
QUOTES Louie Vito I don’t pay attention to scores. I’m just trying to put down the run that I’m happy with and have the riders around me push me.
I get tired of being second. I’m stoked to be consistent but I wanted to at least get on top of the podium this year. I did, and what better place than where I’m living now in Utah, at the Toyota Championships, to walk away with the Dew Cup.
Spencer Shaw That was the first time I’ve ever done that run and a 14. My heart was pounding so hard at the top of the pipe, and it all worked out, I’m so excited. I’ve never tried it before. Right before I dropped in, my coach was like, ‘Why don’t you try that?’ and I was like, ‘Ok,’ and I dropped in and it worked out well.
