Developing Tomorrow's Olympians

Keeping a focus on athletic development is vital to our future. Over the last months, you’ve been hearing a lot about our elite athletes training at the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain. However, one of key benefits of the Center goes beyond elite athletes of today and directly to our future in helping the USSA develop the elite athletes of tomorrow.

Junior racers from clubs around America, as well as U.S. Ski Team Development athletes, have had the unique opportunity to train on the Center’s full-length downhill course alongside the elite athletes they look up to. U.S. regional development programs are equal partners with the national team in use of the Center, with over 150 junior athletes participating in Speed Center programs this year. Along with U18 and U21 regional camps, U16 athletes have had the unique opportunity to train at a super G camp, safely working them in bringing up their speed as the camp progresses. The Speed Center is changing the total approach in how we train the elite alpine athletes of the future and providing a unique opportunity for USSA clubs through our regional programs.

Our effort is certainly not going unnoticed. Foreign coaches have noted that there are no other junior athletes in the world with opportunities like the USSA is providing at Copper. We have the tremendous opportunity to become world leaders in speed and, looking ahead, to become a four-event nation.

Through this innovative partnership with Copper Mountain, the USSA is ensuring a Best in the World team for many years to come.
