USSA Programs

McKinsey Study

Since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, the USSA has made development a key focus area. The USSA, as the leader of multiple Olympic sports, must continue to ensure that its programs strengthen and grow to enable athletes to achieve their Olympic dreams. In order to be a Best in the World organization, we must constantly challenge ourselves to uncover areas of opportunity and improvement.

To accomplish this, the USSA enlisted the pro bono assistance of the globally-recognized consulting firm McKinsey & Company to work with a Steering Committee of USSA sport leaders to help evaluate the way support is delivered to athletes and parents through our USSA clubs and development programs nationwide. McKinsey and the study's Steering Committee were asked to consider several issues and offer recommendations for how we can make USSA better.

After conducting over 100 interviews across the organization with coaches, club and regional leaders, athletes and parents, as well as experts at other successful sports and non-profit organizations, significant support for evolving the USSA towards becoming a more club-based organization was found. This transition will be focused on three major areas: strengthening club support and services, improving communications and enhancing member support and services.

Implementation of the Steering Committee's recommendations are already underway, with staffing and resources committed to expanded programming and activity. Additional implementation will occur during the USSA Congress and Board Meeting in May.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to surveys and speak with McKinsey's staff. With your help, we can make the USSA a truly Best in the World organization.
