Rookie Camp Provides Opportunity

June, 2012

Of all the athletic programs produced by the USSA, our annual Rookie Camp sets itself apart as one of the valuable programs to enlighten athletes to their future opportunities. Recently we introduced over 40 first-time national team athletes to the USSA and their excitement was contagious.

New Team members ranging from age 13 to 30 traveled to Park City from around the country. As athletes, they had already achieved a much-sought-after position on the national team. Now it was time to set their sights higher.

Guest speakers and classroom sessions taught them details on the organization and athlete services. Team building activities like a ropes course and a competitive soccer game were also on the docket. They learned about the USSA's best in the world vision and their role in making that vision a reality. They soaked in every morsel of information.

With the largest group of athletes and parents in the history of Rookie Camp, our innovative programs like TEAM Academy in the Center of Excellence were of great interest. With the addition of the new Olympic sports like freeskiing, the average age of our Rookie Camp participants has started to skew younger.

These young athletes are the best in America – soon to be challenging the world. I feel confident that every single athlete in attendance has the potential to be an Olympic champion – and so do they!

If their enthusiasm and dedication is any indicator of their future success in sport and in life, then we should all be very proud.
