USSA-USOC Partnership in Olympism
Like most Americans, I was glued to coverage of the London Olympics this summer. Last week, at the U.S. Olympic Committee’s annual Olympic Assembly, the organization celebrated the success that brought 104 medals to Team USA, sending 208 individuals home to their communities with gold, silver or bronze and the spirit of Olympism.
As I listened to presentations from great Olympic champions like Dan O’Brien and Steve Holcomb, I was reminded of the amazing opportunity that athletes have in our country. As an Olympic sports organization, the USSA strongly values our partnership with the USOC. More than any time in our history, we are aligned on principles and working hand-in-hand to support the Olympic success of our skiing and snowboarding athletes.
Americans are inspired by athletic success. Our role at the USSA, through local clubs across the country, is to provide opportunities for athletes to achieve their Olympic dreams and goals. We are a Best in the World Olympic sports organization!
Similarly, the USOC employs a mission focused on sustained competitive excellence. That was the message from Chairman Larry Probst, President and CEO Scott Blackmun and High Performance Director Alan Ashley as they spoke to us last week. It was inspiring to celebrate the success of London, as well as understanding the commitment of the USOC towards Sochi.
The success of ski and snowboarding athletes is dependent on all of us working together. It takes collaboration between the USOC and USSA, along with each of the more than 400 local USSA clubs, for those athletes to stand atop that Olympic podium.
Thanks for your partnership!
