KLINGENTHAL, Germany (Jan. 25) – The U.S. Ski Team’s Taylor Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, CO) was named the International Ski Federation’s Nordic Combined Athlete of the Week following last weekend’s career first World Cup podium. Fletcher has been lighting up the World Cup the last few weeks with the fastest cross country leg four times. A strong jump on Sunday put him into a spot to content for the podium as he finished 2.9 seconds back from the win in third. Fletcher and his teammates will be back in action with a pair of events this weekend in Klingenthal.
Fletcher and company will compete this weekend in Klingenthal, Germany before heading to Sochi for the Olympic test event next week.
QUOTES Taylor Fletcher It is a great honor to receive athlete of the week from FIS. With all the hard work that I have put in throughout the summer and fall, it is really nice to see my results to get high enough for World Cup podiums. It has always been a dream of mine to get a World Cup podium and now I feel like I can get many more. My level of skiing is rock solid from the great coaching and belief that I can achieve these results. Every weekend I feel as though now I can start to build on my results and slowly start to feel more success. I look forward to a great weekend here in Klingenthal before we head to Sochi.
Dave Jarrett, Head Nordic Combined Coach We are psyched for the honor for Taylor. He has been working hard and now is seeing the dividends. He is competing at his average level and now his average level is good enough for the World Cup podium. That is a testament to his work ethic and belief he could get there.
